When Is Bug Season in Squamish? | Brackendale Bug Screens
Brackendale Bug Screens April 10, 2026 2 min read
Bug season in Squamish typically runs from May through September, with peak activity in July and August. If you live near the Squamish River estuary, Brackendale, or anywhere backing onto forest, you already know — the mosquitoes, no-see-ums, and horseflies arrive in force once temperatures climb above 15°C consistently.
The Sea-to-Sky corridor's geography creates ideal breeding conditions. The Squamish River estuary, Mamquam River wetlands, and the Brackendale eagle reserve area are all prime mosquito habitat. Standing water from spring snowmelt feeds larvae through June, and the warm, humid conditions of July and August produce the densest populations.
Mosquitoes are the most common complaint, but they're not the only concern. No-see-ums (biting midges) are active near waterways and are small enough to pass through standard fiberglass mesh — if you live near the estuary or river, consider NoSeeUm fine mesh for your screens. Horseflies are most active in July and August near Brackendale and along the river corridors. Blackflies are common in Whistler and Pemberton from June through August.
The best time to get your screens inspected and repaired is April or early May — before bug season starts. Torn mesh, missing screens, and gaps around screen frames all become entry points once insects are active. A single pre-season service call can identify and fix problems before they become a nightly battle.
For homes near the Squamish River, Brackendale, or anywhere within a few hundred metres of standing water, we recommend NoSeeUm mesh on at least the bedroom and living area windows. This extra-fine mesh blocks the tiny biting midges that standard fiberglass lets through.
