Window Screen Mesh Types Explained | Brackendale Bug Screens

Choosing the right screen mesh makes a bigger difference than most homeowners realize. The mesh is the working part of your screen — it determines visibility, airflow, durability, and what insects it blocks. We offer five mesh options, each suited to different situations. **Standard Fiberglass** is our base mesh, included in all standard screen builds. It blocks common insects (mosquitoes, flies, wasps) while providing good airflow and visibility. It's the most affordable option and works well for most Sea-to-Sky homes that aren't near standing water or heavy insect zones. **BetterVue** is a premium fiberglass mesh with a finer weave that improves outward visibility significantly. If you have ocean views from West Vancouver, mountain views from Squamish, or forest views from Whistler, BetterVue lets you see more clearly through the screen. It provides the same insect protection as standard fiberglass with noticeably better clarity. **TuffMesh (TuffScreen)** is a heavy-duty mesh designed for high-traffic areas and moderate pet exposure. It's roughly 3x stronger than standard fiberglass and resists tears from impacts, kids, and light pet contact. Good for patio doors, ground-floor windows, and any screen that takes daily abuse. **NoSeeUm** mesh has the finest weave of our standard offerings. It blocks tiny biting insects — no-see-ums, blackflies, and gnats — that standard mesh lets through. Essential for homes near the Squamish River estuary, Mamquam wetlands, or anywhere near standing water. The tradeoff is slightly reduced airflow compared to standard mesh. **PetScreen** is the heavy hitter — vinyl-coated polyester that's 7x stronger than standard fiberglass. It handles dog claws, cat climbing, and large breed pets leaning their full weight against the mesh. If your pets destroy standard screens regularly, PetScreen pays for itself after the first season. **Our recommendation by situation:** - Oceanfront or mountain view home → BetterVue - Riverside property near estuary → NoSeeUm - Household with dogs or cats → PetScreen - High-traffic patio door → TuffMesh - Standard home, no special needs → Standard fiberglass Not sure which mesh is right?
